Do you know what to do in the event of an oral health emergency? Oftentimes, oral emergencies are the result of an accident that occurs to our mouths and in many cases, they are not easily preventable. However, preparing for any situation that may arise with your oral health is one of the key factors in ensuring the highest chance of successful recovery in the shortest amount of time.

– Tongue/Lip Bite: If you bite your lip or tongue, wash the wound out with clean water and cover with a gauze pad until it stops bleeding. If you think it needs stitches, seek help right away.

– Tooth Loss: If you have a tooth knocked out, soak the tooth in a liquid substance to keep it moist. It may be possible for your dentist to save the tooth.

– Cracked Tooth: If you suffer from a cracked tooth due to blunt trauma or similar injury, wash the area with clean water and apply a gauze pad to minimize the bleeding.

– Filling/Crown Knocked Loose: If a dental crown or dental filling is knocked loose, cover the affected tooth in your mouth with sugar-free chewing gum if it had a filling, and a cotton swab if it had a crown.
